Yesterday which is the 8Th of December 2011 on 7.00 o.clock was our year 5,6,7 and 8 prize giving time. As i sat on the floor hoping i might get a special award, and as i was thinking to myself about the award was also thinking about the year 8 final performance before they leave to collage. As i was walking nervously into the stage to do our Dougie i was very nervous. The music started and i could hear the boys singing the teach me how to Dougie.

I enjoyed the Prize giving and i hope to get a Prize next tome.

Planets

Our Solar System consists the Sun and 9 different Planets. The smallest Planet in this system is Pluto which is found to be a Dwarf Planet. It’s Diameter is 2306 km. With the second is Mercury with 4879 km so it seems that Mercury is twice the size of Pluto. Next is Mars. No one knows who first discovered Mars, the size of Mars is 6792km. When you put Pluto and Mercury together, that's the size of Mars. Venus and Earth nearly has the same size but with Earth a bit Bigger with about 600km .Venus 12105km and Earth 12756km.

The next Planet is Neptune which the size is 49528km. None of the Planets
that i have included in the beginning are near this size. Next biggest size for the Planets is Uranus and it is 51118km. Mercury is the closest planet to the sun and life is not possible there. Jupiter is the hugest Planet with 142,800km.

What an Experience

Yes!!! I said to myself. We are finally doing something different because today we started the morning with a test which was not really what I wanted, because I like starting of the day with outside thing to hook us in to our work. But yesterday we were finally doing something different. And it was and Experience!!.

It was a sunny day yesterday and our whole class and our teacher were going to have a Experience which is what I am going to tell you about now. The reason why we were doing this is because this Term we are learning about Space and Planets and we needed to know more about these things. We first started with a class discussion about how big and small the planets are, how it revolves around the sun, which way they turn and there were more things we talked about.Did you know? that the earth is just lucky to be on the right spot in our solar system where it is not to close to the sun or to far from it.

And yesterday 10 of us were chosen to be one of the 9 planets and 1 to be the sun. We were given different coloured balloons to fill with water to the size of the planet which you were given, for example Pluto was needed to be filled and had to be the smallest balloon out of all of them. We walked outside to blow the balloon with the water until the rain drop and we had to abort our planed destination and had to just come in our class to do our experience there with no water but just air.

As we were inside the classroom and we were all calmed down everyone that was given a balloon was told to blow there planet to the exact size of there planet. If you do not know the planets we are talking about, it is Mercury,Venus ,Earth,Mar, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto which is known to be a Dwarf Planet.After all the balloons were blown up and one person got sent out of the classroom, the sun was told to stand up in the middle and then the other 9 planets were told to stand from the nearest to the sun all the way to the far-est. Mrs Lagitupu our teacher pointed to the planets and we had to give any facts for each planets.

We know the Mercury is the closest one to the sun, Venus is made out of gas, Earth is the only planet with life, Mars is known as the Red Planet because of its colour, Jupiter is the biggest Planet out of all, Saturn rings are made out of ice,Uranus has got a bright colour,Neptune is named after the King of the Sea and Pluto is the far-est from the sun and is also known that it is not a Planet, it a Dwarf Planet.

The sun is in the middle of our Solar System and it never move around only the Planets does. On Earth there are two parts one of the parts face the sun and that part is day while the other is night when the planet moves and the this planet turn to the other side and the side that was night goes to day. It takes 1 year for the Earth to move around the sun. Some take more time like Pluto which takes it about 300 years to move around the sun.

Carter Takes a Break

All Blacks First-five Daniel Carter has suffered a big World Cup injury when he pulled a muscle at his training session. People say the reason why is because he was not getting warmed up properly. He is now going to miss the rest of the Rugby World Cup and taking his place will be Colin Slade. Carter is one of the best First-five in the All Blacks. He is a magnificent yet humble team player and, like his captain Richard McCaw he deserves his day once, with playing 2 games,getting 6 conversion , 21 penalties and 1 drop goal Carter is going to be watching his Team go out there on the field playing at the quarter finals with Argentina. We hope that the ABS will be going more further and win the Rugby World Cup again.

We hope that Daniel gets a chance again in the next 4 years.

Term 3 HIghlight

This Term we have been busy the whole term with everything we need to do. We have been doing allot of things like opening of the Rugby World Cup, Badminton, Maths, RWC quiz, Technology at Tamaki Collage and more. One of my highlights for this term is the opening of the Rugby World Cup.

Everybody was being busy on that very important are getting ready for the opening of the RWC and the first game which was Tonga vs New Zealand. The crowd was like roaring lions as they were amazed off the fake ships or wakas that was floating on the fake water which was the Rugby field. The best part of opening for me was the fire works and when the little boy was flying trying to get the ball and when he met Jonah Lo mu who is holding the record of the most tries in Rugby World Cup history.

At school we always have a Team assembly every Tuesday and Thursdays. At those assembly we have been having Class quiz's. This is how the game works. Our Team leader Mrs Nua will be choosing two or three country that has taken part on the RWC and there will be 5 question for the answer and buzzer for our class. The first person to hit his buzzer on the head gets to answer the question first.Last week we were doing Canada and Samoa.

One of the my favourite Teams in the Rugby World Cup is the Tongan Ikale Tahi rugby team. And as some of use know they were welcomed by a big crowd of Tongan fans at the Auckland Airport. All the singing, cheering, dancing, Beeping and noise that was around the Airports. When the team arrived and came out of the door they were surprised of the amount of people that was there two welcome them.

My AFL Writing

AFL!!! after-lunch I thought to myself, I can not wait. As some of use know AFL stands for Australian Football League and thats why we call it Aussie Rules.It was a Wednesday afternoon and we walked down to the court to get ready to start our session with Room 15,Mr Marks class.When we walked to sit down on the caught, they were laughing at us like we were clowns walking in to start are show. I did not know why they were laughing but they had a reason to laugh. So we just sat down.

We started our session by reviewing all the strategies we have been learning for the past few weeks when we have been to AFL. We learned how to chest mark,high mark,drop punt,hand ball and more. And yesterday we were learning how to do a ruck and how to drop the ball and make it come to you, just like are round bouncy ball but this was an oval shaped ball. We were shown the way that we face the ball and drop it and it can come back to you.We were then doing the ruck after learning how to do the drop punt. The ruck is used on the game when the ball goes out or when the Referee does not know who got the ball first.

The strategies we needed to learn yesterday was finished and the we played are game when you have 3 people in your group.Each team gets one ball each.The first person in the line then gets the ball. He runs with the ball and drop punt it once in the middle and in the end and runs back doing the same thing and then he passes the ball to the second one in the line, and he does the same thing, and the last one in the line then does the same thing and comes and sit in front with the ball in there knee and get there whole team to put there hands on the head and the first one to do these instruction wins.We played to time and two teams from Room 15 won.

We had a great time yesterday but it was only not good because the time was very fast.

My RWC Ajective

At the airport there were allot of supporters to the Tongan Team.The Tongan team were amazed as they came out of the airport to see the awe-inspiring welcome that the fans had planned for them. There were lots of excitement as the fans were beeping their horns,singing,dancing and lots of cheering.

Israel Dagg defends superbly a Tongan player who was trying to stop him from scoring a try. He trys consistently to push his leg faster while hes defending the Tongan player who's trying to stop him.The Tongan player did not take Dagg down so Dagg
ran and scored the first try of Rugby World Cup 2011.

After the Tonga Team preformed there haka, the formidable All Black preformed there haka at there huge opponent the Ikale Tahi. The Tongan team stared the All Blacks with courage and did not care of what they do because they had faith that it will be a tough game and the more they scare them the less they will worry.

Tamaki Technolgy.

Today I was late to Technolgy at Tamaki College and we were finding out the temperature of water on fire every minutes. I was in teams with Jonty, Junior and Sione.

What we found out that blue colour fire was a stronger fire then orange colour fire. When we finished our result we noticed that there was a pattern on the temperature. When the temperature was nearly at 100 degrees celsius we saw the water starting to boil so we had to turn off the fire and go to have a 5 minute break. When our break finished and we came inside we looked at our results. We had to turn our results into a graph.

What I learned this Term at Science was that water actually can not clean the oil on your body after eating something with too much oil.

The favourite thing about this Term at science was when we had to find out and experience things like, water,fire temperature and about things in our body. This was our last session at science and we loved staying at it. We hope that our next class next term is food because we want to cook some yummy food next term.

Well I think that we should bring phones to school because of emergency for example the Christchurch earthquake on February 15 2011 people was using there cellphones to contact there families and friends when they were stuck inside buildings they were in. Also when things go wrong you could contact your family or friends for help.

Computers have changed dramatically in the past 20 years. It has also changed in the past because of peoples thinking and new inventions.

There are different types of computers like Apple Macs , PC’s and more. There are also computers that are
called laptops. these inventions are made to be easier
to take anywhere you go.

Computers are normally used for communication which is e-mail, online chats. You can also do gaming and animating. Sometimes people uses the Internet to do things they can do like ordering pizza online.

Mostly the cost of a computer depends on the type of computer you are buying because some
computers are cheap and the other computers are expensive like the apple computer.

Cellphones
Cellphones have been a great invention for people to use for communicating with their family and friends.

Cellphones have changed in the past few years because of peoples thinking. It has changed how we use it, how it works and what it does. Some phones you can use by just touching your fingers
and with other phones you need to use buttons or keys. These touch phones are new phones and
phones with buttons are new but not that new.

Mostly phones are used for texting and calling but they can also be used for emergencies, taking
photos, video, Internet and more. When the latest fashion phone was invented more things that have not been on any phone before were made, like email, games and more.

Phones are important mostly for contacting and emergencies because if you are not near a land line and you are somewhere you need do not know, then you will need a cellphone. What is not important about cellphones is things on the Internet, like Facebook, saying things that
you should not be saying, and things that are dangerous like things that you buy with a credit card
online.

Mostly people who have jobs, teenagers and business people has phones. But mostly rich people
have the latest fashion phones. Kids that are 10 years old and older usually have phones. In the olden days no one had any phone like the phones these days because they were not invented yet.

Sometimes I try to think of what the olden days were like when they did not have any cellphones. I wonder how they called for help when there was an emergency.

Immersion

Immersion
For this term our theme is Bigger, Better, Faster and Stronger. Team 5 has something that is
called Immersion and this is like a rotation for the classes in our team to learn about these things
Imagination, Creativity, Discovery, Innovation and Practicality. Our class has been to all the classes already.

When we went to the Creativity class with Miss Tito we had to design our name in a creative way. I used Graffiti text and Block writing with my name. We were doing this because we were competing in a challenge, to win a big slingshot when we have swimming on week 4 with our class. We get to shoot water balloons at everyone even our teacher.

At Innovation with Mr Harris we were learning how things changed from the past like cars, phones, televisions and other things. We had to make a presentation on our google docs about
anything that have changed in the past, so I made a presentation about how planes has changed from the past.

At Discovery class with Mrs Nua, we made something that we could put an egg on the top, and drop it from one meter high and it does not crack. But first we had to design a plan before getting our equipment to create our egg holder. Stevie and I dropped our egg and it cracked, only one group’s egg did not crack.

When we went to Mr Barks class the words we were looking at was Practicality and Impracticality. We learnt whether things were fair, simple, easy, achievable and reasonable. Mr Barks showed us a leaf blower and he told us a story about when he found it from the organic rubbish. He searched for all the pieces and put it back together and it worked.

This term the topic has been really good and I am really looking forward to creating things that Bigger, Better, Faster and Stronger.

Camp TC

YES!!!!! It was camp today and I was very excited. It was a Monday morning and it was the first day of camp.Our camp was held at our school field and the year 7&8 were part of it because we are the oldest in the whole school and the year 5&6 had to come on Wednesday after our camp
finished.

We were all busy bringing our bags and gear in to the hall before the bell rings. When the bell rang we were told to have a meeting like always in the hall. When the meeting was finished we were told about our teams first activity for the day. Our first activity for the day was building tents. We had to build the tent that we were going to sleep in.

When we finished our first activity we were told that our second activity for the day was the Hangi
Prep. This activity was when we had to get the Hangi food ready for the Hangi because our first
dinner for the camp was a Hangi. Tokorima one of the campers dad and his crew were doing the Hangi. I couldn’t wait to have a nice dinner that night. When we finished our Hangi prep we washed all our equipment we used.

Our next activity was Kayaking which was my favourite because we were using different
kayaks from the one that we used last year. Ii was more easier for us to use. We were
walking down the reserve and I was thinking of a swim on the water. When we got there I had to
go and change into my togs and get ready to go for a row. My favourite thing about kayaking
was when I got to go on Mr Malloys boat and got to steer it too.

When all the activities were finished we really had a great day and I could not wait for
the next day when Rock up would come to our school.

Christchurch Earthquake

Yesterday there was a sad message sent to us about Christchurch. Another horrible earthquake
had struck Christchurch. It was also sad because this time it was known that people had
lost their loved ones. We know that the earthquake happened during school and work at lunchtime. It happened on 9 minutes to 1 o clock.Some rescuers are going around night to reach people still in places stuck or struggling. Our school is thinking of
doing something to to support our people at Christchurch.

Market Day

Mairangi Bay

Orientation:Last Friday room 19 and 20 went on there trip to Mairangi Bay.We went
there to learn about life saving and how to stay safe at the beach.We we came to school
the bus was already here i came early so i helped Mr Marloe on the garden.

When it was time we lined up walked past assembly and went to the past.When we got
to the bus Mrs Nua counted us before we went in the bus.When we were all in the bus
the bus started and we were gone.

When we were there there was lot of things we got to do.We got to learn about
diffrent waves.We got to learn how the life guards help other people in the
water.And we got to get a boggie board and surf on the beach.

When finished our time at Mairangi bay we went on the bus
back to school and got ready to go home

Today was our first day with net books.It was cool we got to do fun staff and also got to try
the new application.When we got it it was so exciting.I couldn't wait to get it started.Well
yesterday we started it by taking it out of the pack and choosing our password and having
a little play with it.From today and the rest of the week until last day of week 9 when we h
have to return it back.I can not wait to do some more cool staff with our net books until
we have to return it back to Mr and Mrs Burt.

Swimming With Life Jacket

*On Tuesday Room 19 had there first swimming lesson on our new pool.Our new pool was next to our netball courts.During lunch we had to change into our togs before the bell rang.

*When the bell rang we lined up and Ms Tito led us to the swimming pool.When

we got there we were standing there listening to Chris telling us what to do.While

we were listening my feet were burning because the sun and because I had no

shoes.

*When we climbed up on the ladder Nalthaniel was the first one to get inside.When he got inside the first thing he said was IT Freezing.When we were in the pool we

did different things like floating holding each other and in a circle singing the national anthem.

We have been learning about Mighty Teen Mariners such as Jesse Martin and Jessica Watson who circumnavigated the globe solo, non stop and were unassisted. Immersion assembly

At our school in the beginning of the term we always have an immersion assembly.
An immersion assembly is when all the staff members dress up as something that
is related to our new topic.

My favourite assembly is when our topic was food glorious food. It is my favourite
because we get to eat B.B.Q and we ate other food. Miss McKinley brought to
school a piniata full with lollies inside.

This term we a learning about Mighty Mariners. Our teacher Miss Tito dressed
up as Jessica Watson. She was a young girl who sailed around the world by her
self with out stopping.

I am looking forward to next terms immersion assembly and what Miss T and Mr

Cocktail onion was new to me I have not tried it and seen it before. It reminded me of lollies that tasted not good. When I got to taste is tit came me a shocking feel and as i was finishing it it got sour.

I had already tried Maple syrup.It reminded me of running honey and cooking oil.

This term we a studding volcanoes. Miss Tito our teacher showed us a movie called The legend

of Mt Taranaki. Our job was to create a D.L.O which retells the story. My group decided to

make a animation to retell it because we thought it was a good idea.

My team members were Nathaniel,Tomjoe,Ronald,Chelsea,Damien and me. We worked well

as a team and got our D.L.O in time with our deadline. Our whole team had different responsibility.

I really enjoyed working together with my group. Our marks was 14/25 which is a bit good but

The Legend Of Mt Taranaki

Long long time ago in the middle of the North Island lived 5 mountains there Name were Pihanga,

Taranaki, Tangariro, Ngaruhoe and Ruapehu, Pihanga was the only female and a Madden mountain and also Tangariros wife. Taranaki fell in love with Pihanga. When Tangariro found out he decided to have a fight for Pihanga and whoever lost they would be punished from the city. Tangariro exploded with rocks and spiting out big rocks which caused a earthquake and also

damaged Taranakis Crater.The fight was over Taranaki has lost for pihanga.As he left his tears ran down and made a river which is known as the Waikato river. He left to the west cost.When he got there and aw the cost he decided that that was his last staying place.

Today we went to the Pt England field to see a hot air balloon. The two men's names were Matt and Daryl.
First they got the fan to blow the cold air into the balloon. They got it out of the trailer
that was on there car. Then it was morning tea time. When we came back the balloon was big like the giant on jack and the bean stalk. Then Mr J said "What are they going to do soon?"
They had two burners to heat the air so it can float. It could not go up high because it was tied to their car. Then we came back to class.
